Ridge Baptists honor first DOM Futrell

Jeff Futrell was named director of missions emeritus during the September meeting of Ridge Baptist Association, which was held at First Baptist Church, Batesburg.

Futrell was the first director of missions for the association, serving from July 1, 1993, until his retirement on Dec. 31, 2002.

During his tenure, the Ridge Association office building in Monetta was constructed. Futrell was a strong proponent of the library, and he and his wife Rebecca also helped promote an associational library.

Prior to his work in Ridge Association, Futrell was associate in the discipleship training department of the South Carolina Baptist Convention, where he served for more than 30 years. Earlier, he had served as pastor in Bethune and Blythewood.

The Futrells currently reside at the Martha Franks Retirement Center in Laurens.
