Anderson University graduates 75 during winter commencement

Seventy-five Anderson University seniors received diplomas during winter commencement Dec. 12. The ceremony was held in the Henderson Auditorium of the Rainey Fine Arts Center on campus.

Allison Page, center, was among the 75 students receiving degrees at Anderson.

Judge William Wilkins received an honorary doctor of laws degree. A native of Anderson, he was chief judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Having assumed senior status earlier this year, he continues to serve the court and actively hear cases.

“I am very pleased to have been selected to receive an honorary degree from Anderson University,” Wilkins said. “Under the decisive leadership of Dr. Evans Whitaker, strong support from the community, dedicated faculty, and outstanding student body, Anderson University has become one of the finest institutions of higher learning in the country. Importantly, not only does Anderson University teach its students how to be successful in life, but it also teaches the importance of being ethical at all times.”

Carolyn Bishop, president of the Consortium for Global Education, delivered the commencement address. Bishop has been on the forefront of brokering educational agreements between Baptist universities in the U.S. and several foreign governments for more than a decade.
