Shull honored by Baptist Foundation upon retirement

Lonnie H. Shull Jr. retired from service as field development coordinator with the Baptist Foundation of South Carolina on Dec. 31.

Shull joined the foundation staff on a part-time basis in 2006 after serving in pastoral ministry for 50 years. Prior to joining the foundation, Shull served on the foundation’s board of trustees for five terms beginning in 1977. He has also served on several associational, state and national Southern Baptist boards and served one term as South Carolina Baptist Convention president.

During the December meeting of the board of trustees, Shull was presented with a resolution commending him for more than 36 years of dedicated service to the foundation. The board also announced that an annual award given to recognize individuals who have exemplified outstanding support of the foundation’s ministry will now be called the Dr. Lonnie H. Shull Jr. Legacy Award. A plaque displaying the award name will be prominently displayed in the foundation’s offices.

“Over the past several years, Lonnie has been assisting the foundation in the area of client relations, keeping up with our churches and individual clients,” said president Barry Edwards. “He has endeared himself to so many through his genuine love and concern for every person he contacts.

“Enthusiasm, integrity, humility, passion, congeniality, godly character and sincerity are just a few words to describe him. The foundation’s ministry has been tremendously enriched because Lonnie Shull has been a part of it, and we, along with our clients, will miss him dearly. We pray that he and Hazel will be especially blessed in the coming years.”
