McCall camp director called to Evergreen Church

Eddie Pettit, who has worked with McCall Royal Ambassador camp for the past 20 years, has resigned as camp director to accept a call as pastor of Evergreen Baptist Church in Effingham.

“I really enjoyed working at Camp McCall,” said Pettit, who served for many years as camp manager before being named camp director in 2011. “It is such a special — even holy — place to me. I was honored to have been a part of the ministry there.”

McCall will also be losing Pettit’s wife, B.J., a nurse, who served as the camp’s medical director for the past 10 years. “She had a tremendous impact in bringing us in line with the healthcare standards of the American Camping Association,” said Pettit. “She worked closely with camp nurse Joan Penn in making Camp McCall one of the premiere programs in the association.”

Pettit’s move to Evergreen is filled with optimism and enthusiasm. “I am looking forward to the work at Evergreen,” he said. He has a goal of 20 baptisms for the year and believes “15 of those should be adults.”

“The church is excited about reaching people and growing stronger in missions,” he said. Part of his vision is to restart WMU, develop RA and GA programs, and build a strong missions program.

Even though he is looking forward to his new ministry opportunity, Pettit said he and his wife struggled with leaving. “I love McCall,” he said. “I will continue to support it, and I am still recruiting campers for them. I hope the convention will see the validity of McCall.”
