Bernett Monroe Waitt, 85, of Summerville, a minister for 58 years, died March 31, 2014.

Born Feb. 11, 1929, in Winnsboro, he graduated from Furman University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. His South Carolina Baptist pastorates included Antioch, Red Hill, and Republican churches in Edgefield; Reevesville Church in Reevesville; and First Church of Timmonsville. He was an associate pastor at Ashley River Church in Charleston and served as an interim pastor for 23 churches. He also served on the staff of Charleston Southern University. He was a member of Summerville Church.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Jane Raines Waitt, three children and seven grandchildren.
