NGU welcomes 21st consecutive record enrollment

For the 21st consecutive year, North Greenville University welcomed the largest number of students in school history. A total of 2,603 undergraduate, graduate, and online students began classes this fall, an increase of 136 over last year. The total enrollment included a record 769 new students — 14.78 percent more than last fall.

In addition, NGU welcomed 117 Palmetto Fellows scholarship recipients. They represent the best academic students from South Carolina. Approximately 175 students anticipate graduation this December.

With the addition of two additional residence halls this semester, a record number of 1,578 students are living in campus housing, 94 more students than last year.

The Honors Scholar program was established in 1980 to offer academically gifted students courses, seminars and activities specifically designed to challenge and enrich their educational experience. Among the new students are 70 Honors Program scholars.

“We are excited about another record enrollment, but what thrills my heart the most are those that have made decisions for Christ,” said NGU president Jimmy Epting.

More than 250 decisions to receive Christ have been made on the campus since June 1, including decisions made through Fuge camps this summer, the IGNITE student crusade, conferences, and worship services since the start of school.

At a recent Global Missions Conference held Sept. 8-10, 719 students made commitments to participate in missions. Thirteen made first-time professions of faith.

“God continues to perform miracles on our campus,” said Epting.

Make a Difference Day was held Aug. 23 and allowed approximately 300 freshmen, in partnership with Three Rivers Baptist Association, the opportunity to minister to local communities through service projects. Students assisted the elderly with yard and house work, conducted nursing home and children’s activities, and reached out to people to lend a helping hand for the day.
