Retired missionary publishes poetry collection

Christian author Jean Phillips has released her sixth book, “Poems from the Heart,” a collection of poetry.

She and her late husband, Gene Phillips, served for more than 40 years as Southern Baptist missionaries in Zimbabwe and other southern African countries. In 2011, they moved to Martha Franks Retirement Community in Laurens, where she continues to reside.

Her poems include words of advice she wrote to her four children as they reached milestones in their lives as well as reflections on spiritual matters and life with Christ. An added segment in the book includes personal letters that provide insight into the thoughts of a young Christian couple as they prepared for marriage.

“Poems from the Heart” can be ordered by sending a check or money order for $14 (shipping included) to Jean Phillips at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Community, 1 Martha Franks Drive, Laurens, S.C., 29360.
