Sen. Larry Grooms receives 2013 CLPAC Public Servant Award

Sen. Lawrence K. “Larry” Grooms, Berkeley County has been selected to receive the 2013 Public Servant Award by the Christian Life and Public Affairs Committee.

Created in 2012, the Public Service Award recognizes a godly elected official who has gone “above and beyond” to promote Baptist values in the public arena. The recipient does not have to be a member of a South Carolina Baptist church, but must have fought for key social and moral issues including, but not limited to, sanctity of life, gambling, homosexuality, drug and alcohol regulation, racial reconciliation, or religious liberty.

Sen. Grooms is a veteran member of the South Carolina Senate, serving parts of Berkeley and Charleston counties since November 1997. His official legislative biography reads, “Christian, saved by grace, April 1987.” Grooms’ voting record consistently reflects Christian principles of life, religious liberties and marriage. He has supported or sponsored legislation that concurs with convention resolutions on social and moral issues, including limiting gambling expansion and support of pro-life issues. He is an advocate of one man-one woman marriage and stringent drunk-driving legislation, and works to secure religious liberty in South Carolina. He was also the primary sponsor and advocate for a 2007 law allowing public school districts to offer elective courses on the history and literature of the Old and New Testaments.
