Hollywood Baptist Church dedicates new building

Hollywood Baptist Church in Saluda held a dedication service for its new church building Oct. 27.

With more than 100 people in attendance, the church members sang praises, shared the story of the church’s birth and heard from David Parks, associate executive director of the church strengthening team of the South Carolina Baptist Convention. Parks charged members to always remember that the church belongs to God.

Hollywood Baptist Church, located on Hunter’s Lane in Saluda, is named for its surrounding rural community. The building is situated on 10 acres of land donated by Ann Derrick and her son, Matt, in honor of Mrs. Derrick’s late husband, Bland Derrick.

Members and friends of the church worked to create the building that now serves as “a beacon of light, love and spirit throughout the community,” according to a church spokesperson.

In December 2009, a group of believers united to form the original Hollywood Baptist Church, which was pastored by Dan Gardner. The church is now led by Jack O. Kyzer.
