Martha Franks residents, Laurens Assoc. reach out to homeless

Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Community residents — in conjunction with Laurens Baptist Association — recently made “plarn” for crocheting mats for the homeless. A large group of seniors from Martha Franks, led by Kay Leagans of Laurens Association, cut plastic bags into strips to make balls of “plarn” (or plastic yarn), which are then used to crochet the mats that will be distributed to the homeless. The association is also holding a workshop for instruction on making mats, witnessing dolls and pillowcase dresses — making it a resource center for groups taking mission trips and for those with spiritual and physical needs.
