Carl Wesley Pointer, 88, of Seneca, died Aug. 11, 2014.

A native of Oconee County, he was a retired Baptist pastor, having served Madison Baptist Church in Westminster, Fants Grove Baptist Church in Pendleton, Rehoboth Baptist Church in Piedmont, Hillcrest Baptist Church in Greer, and Cleveland First Baptist Church in Cleveland.

He also pastored churches in western North Carolina. He served as interim pastor for many churches following his retirement and was a former moderator for Beaverdam Baptist Association, where he held several officer positions.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Winchester Pointer, three children, nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosa Lee Pointer.
