Centenary Baptist dedicates new building at Oct. 19 homecoming

The congregation of Centenary Baptist Church, Marion Association, dedicated a new church building and observed homecoming on Oct. 19. Jerry Pace and Timothy Shaw, son of former interim pastor Richard Shaw, brought dedication messages. Richard Shaw retired on Sept. 14 following a stroke in May. Former pastor Thelton Powell and his family brought a message in song. A fellowship meal followed the services. The previous sanctuary, which was built in 1913, was destroyed by fire caused by a lightning strike on April 9, 2011, and groundbreaking for the new building was held on April 14, 2013. According to the South Carolina Baptist Convention annual, Centenary was organized in 1737.
