Obituary: Gladys Bryant

Gladys Eugenia “Hap” Bryant, 91, an Anderson native, died Sept. 7, 2014. After retiring as professor of history and political science at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., she served as a missionary in Japan for six years and in China for more than nine years before becoming ill.

She was a graduate of Furman University, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and received a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University. At her funeral, proclamations were given to the family by Zhengzhou University in China and Belmont University.

She attended Brentwood Baptist Church until she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2009, at which time she moved to Greenville, where she lived the rest of her life under the care of her sister-in-law, Virginia L. Bryant.
