SCBC names new director of camps and conference centers

The South Carolina Baptist Convention has hired Thomas Truitt as executive director of camps and conference centers, a new position that represents a consolidation of management responsibilities for Camp McCall and White Oak Conference Center.

Truitt will begin his duties in mid-December. Camp McCall, a rustic mountain retreat for boys who are active as Royal Ambassadors in their churches, is located in Pickens County. White Oak Conference Center, a residential retreat center for students and adults, is located near Winnsboro in Fairfield County.

Truitt has served as director of Gilmont Camp and Conference Center in Gilmer, Texas, since 1999. During his tenure, the conference center has tripled its revenue, seen an increase in guest usage, and transitioned from a facilitating camp to a programming camp. Truitt has experience overseeing multiple building projects, renovations and conference center additions. He previously served on staff at camps in Livingston and Sandia, both in Texas.

The child of Southern Baptist missionaries to Mexico, Truitt has lived in Texas since 1983. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in ministry careers from East Texas Baptist University. He and his wife, Kimberly, have two sons, 10 and 13.
