AS OF SEPT. 27, more than $1 million has been donated to the South Carolina Baptist Convention disaster relief ministries to aid hurricane victims.
In order to assist victims quickly, funds are distributed on a weekly basis to state conventions in the Gulf Coast region as well as the North American Mission Board.
In addition to the North American Mission Board, the organizations affected by Hurricane Katrina that are receiving money include the Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama Baptist conventions. Associations within South Carolina who are assisting displaced victims have also received some of the contributions.
With the arrival of Rita to the Gulf Coast region, Texans are now in need of assistance. The South Carolina Baptist Convention has added an additional designated fund for Hurricane Rita. All funds donated to disaster relief must now be designated for Hurricane Rita or Hurricane Katrina. Contributions will then be distributed to the proper state conventions. Gifts to Hurricane Rita will be distributed to the Texas and Louisiana conventions.
All money donated to disaster relief ministries through the South Carolina Baptist Convention will go to assist victims.
