DON WILTON, pastor of First Baptist Church, Spartanburg, for the past 12 years, will be nominated for president of the South Carolina Baptist Convention at the annual meeting Nov. 15-16.
Joe Wren, pastor of Summerville Baptist Church, will nominate Wilton, a former associate professor of evangelistic preaching at New Orleans Baptist Seminary. Wilton also has served churches in Mississippi and Louisiana.
In a statement to The Baptist Courier, Wren said of Wilton, “He knows the work of the convention and understands the importance of Empowering Kingdom Growth.” Wren described the Spartanburg pastor as “bold in evangelism and strong in missions” and as one who “understands the importance of the local church in carrying out the Great Commission.”
