An open letter to S.C. Baptists

The Baptist Courier

These past few months have been a time of great challenge in many parts of our country caught in the path of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma.

These storms left terrible destruction resulting in the loss of homes, schools and businesses, as well as hundreds of lives. Yet no sooner had the storms passed than South Carolina Baptists sent an army of volunteers to the Gulf region.

The scope of the teams’ skills were as great as their compassion. Serving hurricane victims in five states, South Carolina Baptists provided everything from chain saws to child care. They drove trucks, cleared roads, set up mobile kitchens and clinics, rebuilt homes and gave out lots of love and hope.

This host of volunteers, supported by church families all across South Carolina, demonstrated the best of America in the midst of the worst of circumstances. Thank you for making such a difference in the lives of so many.

Your work of giving and going has been a demonstration of the gospel – the hands of Christ to comfort, clothe, feed and heal many in need.
