Miranda Lawhon, a GA at Old Fort Baptist Church, Summerville, sits in front of boxes collected for Samaritan’s Purse this year. The church set a record this Christmas, collecting 333 boxes for the ministry.

The WMU of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Greer, sent 53 crocheted caps to the International Seafarers Ministry in Charleston. The caps were made by Foret Edwards and Mildred Pollard.

Reedy River Baptist Association honored Catherine Young for 39 years as associational pianist during its annual meeting. Presenting the plaque is Kenneth Harmon, pastor of First Baptist Church, Newberry.

Viola Gibson was presented a plaque of appreciation for her many years of service to Centenary Baptist Church. She had held various positions in the church and with Marion Baptist Association. Joe Proctor, pastor of Centenary, made the presentation.

Freedom Baptist Church, Loris, a new work in Carolina Baptist Association, received the deed to its land on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. The gift totaled about $31,302, a little more than half of the cost of the land. W.H. Morris, right, pastor of Freedom, received the deed from Lonnie Johnson, left, another bivocational pastor in the association.

The Elgin 39ers, the seniors group of Blaney Baptist Church in Elgin, initiated a ministry called Operation Santa for Seniors. Assisted by the church’s youth ministry, the group collected Christmas gifts, clothing and personal items for delivery to senior adults in the Webster Springs, W.Va., area. Eight adults and 14 youth from Blaney made the trip on Thanksgiving weekend. The idea of Operation Santa for Seniors grew out of a summer youth mission trip to Webster Springs.

Oak Grove Baptist Church, Spartanburg, dedicated its new 5,000-square-foot ministry center and celebrated the church’s 155th anniversary Oct. 30. Cutting the ribbon are (l to r) Henry Pruitt, longest church member; Danny Knight, chairman of the building committee; Rufus Chaneyworth, pastor; Terry Phillips, chairman of deacons; George Feris, general contractor with TN Construction; and Ed Garren, second longest church member.

Clary Gardner, right, a junior at Furman University, was recently licensed to the ministry by First Baptist Church, York. Presenting the certificate of license is deacon chair Libby Childers. Clary’s father, Randy Gardner, is pastor of First Baptist.

Friendship Baptist Church, Pauline, held its annual fall festival Oct. 29. The event featured magician Steve Holt and rides on the “Friendship Express,” created by Richard and Jewel Moore.
