In 2001, Arnold Hiette, pastor of Barkers Creek Baptist Church in Honea Path, was diagnosed with liver disease, and now his doctors have determined that he must have a liver transplant to live.
According to his daughter, Kimberly, who lives in Fort Pierce, Fla., but is home with the family now, he has an appointment at the Medical University of South Carolina, probably in April.
Hiette, 60, was between insurance companies at the time his illness was diagnosed, and today he has no health insurance. Because of this, Kimberly said, the family will have to raise $160,000 for her father to be placed on a donor list.
“He is very ill,” she said, “and has not been able to work since he was diagnosed. He doesn’t have a lot of time left if he doesn’t get on the donor list.”
Barkers Creek Baptist Church has established a fund to help pay for medical expenses. The church’s address is 3207 Highway 252, Honea Path, S.C. 29654.
Hiette grew up in Greenville, graduating from Parker High School and attending North Greenville University. A former sales manager for Hollingsworth Industries of Greenville, he has served churches in Fountain Inn, Clinton, Greenville, Pickens and Anderson during a 25-year ministry.
