CSU students spend spring break in Mississippi

The staff and students at the Baptist Children’s Village in Clinton, Miss., are still feeling the effects of Hurricane Katrina. So during their March spring break, Clark Carter, Charleston Southern University campus minister and 22 CSU students painted, raked, and replanted at the village.

The CSU team broke up into four service groups. One group cleaned and disposed of yard debris beneath the children’s ropes course. A second team cleaned and replanted the flowerbeds at the 11 cottages. A third team painted an entire cottage and a fourth team scraped, primed and painted hundreds of feet of cast iron fencing.

After long days of working, the evenings were filled with play and fun as the CSU students enjoyed time with the children from the Baptist Village.

“By all standards, the mission trip was a huge success,” said Carter. “We had three goals in mind for our time in Mississippi. First, we sought to show the love of Christ to the children at the home. Second, we wanted to encourage the workers at the home and minister to some of their needs. Last, we wanted the experience to touch us and make us more like Christ. By God’s grace, all three goals were accomplished.”

The Baptist Children’s Village is one of five campuses located in Mississippi, with the headquarters based in Jackson.
