Colman assumes VP post at CSU

Jim Colman has joined the Charleston Southern University family as the new vice president of academic affairs. He replaces A.K. Bonnette who stepped down in June after serving in the role for more than 20 years to re-enter the classroom as a full-time chemistry professor this fall.

Colman previously served as senior vice president for academic affairs at Oklahoma Baptist University. He completed his master’s and doctor’s degrees in music education at Michigan State University.

He served on the faculty of Cedarville University from 1989 until 2003, with teaching responsibilities that included music theory, music technology and piano. He also served as chairman of the music department, director of strategic planning and was the North Central Association Accreditation self-study director.

CSU president Jairy Hunter said, “Dr. Colman brings valuable teaching and administrative experiences from other Christian universities. He is well known in higher education as an effective academic leader.”

Colman’s family includes his wife Becky, daughter Kristin, 18, and son Michael, 16.
