Jim Staples, 70, of Colorado Springs, Colo., a former church music and education minister in South Carolina, died Aug. 24.
“He was one of the finest staff ministers I had the pleasure of working with,” said retired South Carolina pastor Lonnie Shull. Staples was minister of music and associate pastor while serving with Shull at Northside Baptist Church, West Columbia.
Staples also served the following churches in various staff ministry positions: Berea First Baptist Church, Greenville; Sans Souci Baptist Church, Greenville; First Baptist Church, Fountain Inn; State Street Baptist Church, Cayce; and Springvale Baptist Church, Lugoff.
He was born in Abbeville and was a graduate of Carson-Newman College and Southwestern Baptist Seminary.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Rhodes Staples, four children and three grandchildren.
