Southside Baptist Church, Spartanburg, will be the site of the International Mission Board’s South Asia conference Oct. 12-13.
“State conventions, associations and churches are being asked to come to Spartanburg for this focused mobilization event,” said Debbie McDowell, director of the missions mobilization group for the South Carolina Baptist Convention.
The conference will offer training in evangelism strategies used in the region such as “camel training” – an evangelistic tool for sharing the gospel with Muslims – and chronological Bible storying, among others. Training on how to plan a mission trip and how to effectively lead a mission trip, to South Asia or anywhere in the world, will also be available.
International Mission Board personnel and churches who are working in South Asia will be on hand to network with and meet with others being called to the region. McDowell said united prayer for the region is key to accomplishing more in South Asia.
“One of the main focuses of the conference is to ask people to commit to pray specifically for one of the 345 unreached, unengaged people groups,” she said.
Sessions will begin on Oct. 12 with optional international trip leader training and will continue through Oct. 13.
“Anyone who has a heart for South Asia or wants to learn more about the region needs to be there,” said McDowell.
