Be united

The Baptist Courier

There are many churches that have fought, and continue to fight, over music, whether traditional or contemporary.

As a pastor, I was once a strong supporter of contemporary music, and still enjoy it. I was in error to think that was the answer to church growth.

The answer to church growth is found on our knees, not in music. I would urge churches not to split up their congregations by offering two different types of services. That will not promote growth. In the long term it will stunt growth. The type of music is not the issue; it is a heart condition of a body that has strayed away from God’s will.

Churches will grow with traditional or contemporary music, not because of them. God grows his church his way. He desires for us to participate with him, and we must spend time on our knees to find out what he wants.

God does not honor division, so we must be united and bound strongly together in prayer, encouraging one another.
