The annual meeting of the South Carolina Baptist Convention will be held Nov. 14-15 at First Baptist Church, Taylors.
Under the theme, “Give It Away,” the convention will offer a variety of opportunities for messengers, including an exhibit hall, Lunch & Learn sessions, and a Tuesday evening worship celebration.
“This will be a time of tremendous worship, praise, thanksgiving, consideration and blessing. This is why our theme is Give It Away,” said Don Wilton, 2006 state convention president and pastor of First Baptist Church, Spartanburg.
The exhibit hall will give attendees a chance to meet face-to-face with vendors offering a variety of ministry-related products and services. “Your South Carolina Baptist Convention,” this year’s convention staff exhibit, will offer resources and learning opportunities related to church planting, missions, evangelism, prayer and leadership, among others.
Lunch & Learn sessions will be offered to equip church leaders with information related to varying ministry areas. The sessions are free to messengers but require registration.
The Tuesday evening worship celebration will feature music by the Spartanburg First Baptist choir and a message from Wilton. A special recognition of retiring executive director-treasurer Carlisle Driggers will also highlight the evening.
Robert Smith, professor of Christian preaching at Beeson Divinity School, will address messengers on Wednesday morning. Smith is an ordained Baptist minister and is the author of several books, including “Preparing for Christian Ministry,” a study of the African-American church.
The 2006 Pastor’s Conference will be held Nov. 13 at Brushy Creek Baptist Church in Taylors. The theme for this year’s conference is “The Pastor’s Work” and will feature John Avant, Danny Akin, David Jeremiah, Frank Page and a testimony by Congressman Jim DeMint, among others.
Registration for messengers will begin Monday, Nov. 13, at the Pastor’s Conference and will continue on Tuesday at Taylors First Baptist Church.
“As we deliberate together and consider the work God has given us to do, let us never forget that everything we have comes from his gracious hand,” said Wilton. “Our perspective is his perspective, our mission his mission and our purpose is to ‘Give It Away.'”
