Todd Deaton is chief operating officer at The Baptist Courier.

The seven-member search committee charged with recommending the next executive director-treasurer of the South Carolina Baptist Convention is “moving forward with great confidence” in the process of finding a successor to Carlisle Driggers, who will step down from the position Feb. 28. The committee is scheduled to present a report during the SCBC Executive Board’s Oct. 9-10 meeting at White Oak Conference Center.

In a Sept. 28 statement to The Baptist Courier, Williams, pastor of Roebuck Baptist Church, said that on behalf of the search committee he wanted to thank all South Carolina Baptists for their ongoing prayer support and encouragement in this process. “We continue to be both humbled and honored by the trust we have been given, and we do not take the task lightly,” Williams said.

“While I can offer few details at this time, I can assure that the committee is moving forward with great confidence in God’s sovereign plan,” he continued. “Our unchanging commitment is to find the person God has chosen for this important task at this important time in the life of our state convention. The timing is in His hands as well.”

Quoting Eugene Peterson’s paraphrase of Psalm 25:11 in The Message – “We are arrows aimed at God’s bull’s eye” – Williams concluded, “That’s our desire in this venture as well.”

Once a candidate is selected, the committee, which met by conference call Sept. 28, will present the nominee for consideration by members of the Executive Board and then for election by messengers at a convention session.

Also serving on the search committee are Don Purvis of Hartsville, Betty Spradley of Rock Hill, Tom Swilley of Conway, Dennis Wilkins of Bluffton, Tommy Cofield of Lexington, and David Martin of Greenville. Resumes for consideration should be sent to Dr. Tim Williams, P.O. Box 490, Roebuck, S.C. 29376.
