Rick Fisher, pastor of Lexington Baptist Church for the past 11 years, has resigned to accept a leadership position with a group of Upstate non-profit foundations.

His final Sunday with the Lexington congregation was to be Nov. 26.

In a letter to his congregation, Fisher said his new work will focus on “global ministry and mission opportunities (and) developing a retreat ministry to pastors.” He said the foundations also do charitable work both within and outside the state.

Fisher said he plans to preach on Sundays “as God provides opportunities.”

“We are blessed to have seen God’s hand at work,” Fisher wrote to his congregation, “transforming lives, calling people forward to follow Him in radical obedience while establishing a heart for prayer and His Word deep within the fabric of this family of faith.”

Fisher, a Sylva, N.C., native, was pastor of First Baptist Church, Pickens, from 1989 until 1995, when he accepted the call to Lexington. From 1983-89, he served on the ministerial staff of Dunwoody Baptist Church, Atlanta. His previous ministerial staff service included churches in Alabama, North Carolina and Kentucky.

He is a graduate of Gardner-Webb College and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Fisher has been active in denominational work. He served five years on the SCBC Executive Board, including two years as chairman and two years as chairman of the Budget, Finance and Audit Committee. He recently was a trustee of North Greenville University, and he served as moderator of the Lexington Baptist Association for the past two years.

He and his wife Debbie have two daughters and a grandchild.
