When Gideon was called by God to deliver Israel from the Midianites, Gideon was hiding behind a winepress threshing wheat. His response to God’s call is recorded in Judges 6:15, “And he said unto him, O my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? Behold my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”
Danny BurnleyThis is exactly what I thought as a result of being chosen to serve as president of the South Carolina Baptist Pastor’s Conference. This was a very humbling experience for which I will always be grateful. It will be an honor and a privilege to serve the pastors of our state convention.
I join with all the pastors who attended the conference this year in commending Bill Curtis, pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church, as he did such a splendid job in planning such a meeting. We also appreciate so much Ralph Carter and the fine people at Brushy Creek Baptist Church, Taylors, for hosting this year’s conference. May the Lord richly bless you all.
Let me express my appreciation to Don Kirkland, editor of The Baptist Courier, and to his staff for allowing me to write an article each month that will be called “The Pastor’s Corner.”
It will be my desire to encourage and to challenge the pastors through these articles. Pray for me and pray for the pastors throughout our state that Jesus will be glorified through us.
As we consider the fact that 73 percent of SBC churches are plateaued or declining, it will be my goal to prepare a pastor’s conference in Florence for 2007 that will help pastors and churches alike. Our God is able to help these churches. He has the answer. Again, let me call upon all pastors and churches to pray for God to move mightily upon us. Let’s believe God!
