On Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, Southern Baptists from around South Carolina went to the polls and made a stand for their beliefs. They sent a message to the rest of America by saying we support conservative candidates and conservative ideals. I thank each of you for taking the time out of your life and practicing your fundamental right to vote. While the controlling party may have changed in the House, the conservative initiatives across the country made it abundantly clear that we still believe in traditional family values. The next years will be a trying time as America goes through many changes, but as long as good men and women are willing to stand up and voice their opinions based on the authority of Scripture, America will prevail.
Any authority that the government has is given to it by God, and so we humbly submit to that authority. Under this government, though, the authority lies with the people, and we the people must responsibly exercise that authority. No matter who is elected to office, they are still subject to the people. So to all those who still believe in this country and the ideals that it was founded upon, I humbly ask that you use all methods legally given to you to compel this new Congress to vote in a way that is honoring to God. Thank you again for the work you have done, and may God continue to bless America.
