“Bless the Lord O my soul and forget not all his benefits” (Psalm 103:2).
Danny BurnleyAs pastors throughout our South Carolina Baptist Convention, we should all be praising our Lord for the great things He has done for us.
I remember years ago when Gregory Horton stood up in a prayer meeting service where I pastored, and he asked our congregation to pray for Charleston Southern and for the new president, Jairy Hunter. This was a time of great need for this college.
Some time later, Bobby Burns, a former graduate at North Greenville requested prayer for his alma mater. There was talk throughout the convention of the possibility of closing the school. God’s people prayed, and God sent Jimmy Epting.
While serving as registration secretary of our convention, I met Evans Whitaker, the new president at Anderson College while he was being introduced to our messengers. I remember saying to him, “Dr. Whitaker, you could not have come at a better time. The best years for Anderson are ahead.”
As we all look at these fine universities today, we can see how God has so richly blessed, and that He alone can receive glory for the wonderful things He has done through these presidents, trustees and staff. My friends, we are being blessed. To God be all glory and praise!
We were reminded at our convention this year how God is using Ben Davis and the Connie Maxwell Children’s Home. There have been so many encouraging words from those who heard the young children as they shared at our meeting. Hearts were truly touched.
Let us not take for granted the reports given by Weldon Fallaw as he shared such positive reports concerning our Baptist Foundation, and surely we should not forget what God is doing at our Baptist Home for the Aging. Let us praise God for what is happening as a result of prayer to God and for South Carolina Baptists pulling together for such a time as this.
I would like to ask all pastors to let the editor of our Baptist Courier, Don Kirkland, know how much we appreciate him and his staff. Many doors of opportunity have been given to us to glorify our Lord and to encourage our churches through the Courier.
Last, but not least, thank God for our newly elected president, Mike Moody. Be assured our nominees, Mike Moody and Tom Tucker, are two great men of God and very close friends. My wife said it best when it came to the time of election. She said, “Why don’t you vote for one and I will vote for the other.” Both of these brothers in Christ have been a blessing to me. We should be thankful to have such godly men who are willing to serve our convention.
My friend, “Bless the Lord and forget not – .”
