A memorial service for Daniel Jay Poore, 33, son of Bill Poore, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Lancaster, will be held Feb. 4 at 3 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church.
Jay Poore died Jan. 19 in Seoul, South Korea, where he had taught science and English and was principal at a private school for eight years.
He was born in Anderson, and he was salutatorian of his graduating class at Central Cabarrus High School in Concord, N.C., in 1992. In 1996, he earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
He was described by his family as a world traveler, son, brother, husband and loving father.
He is survived by his wife, Soun-Mi, and 6-month-old daughter, Haley. Other survivors include his parents, Bill and Patsy Poore, of Lancaster, and his brother, Steve, who lives with his family in Tampa, Fla.
James R. Gray, pastor of Utica Baptist Church, Seneca, and Boyce Wilson, pastor of Ebenezer ARP Church in Rock Hill, will offer eulogies at the memorial service.
