Helen B. Davis, 85, of Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center, Laurens, formerly of Spartanburg, who was instrumental in the establishment of the South Carolina Baptist Student Union in the Spartanburg area, died Feb. 11, 2007.

Born in Laurens, she was a graduate of Laurens High School and Limestone College. She was a pioneer in Baptist Student Union work, serving as citywide director for the colleges in Spartanburg for 16 years.

She later served as church and pastor’s secretary at Southside Baptist Church in Spartanburg for 25 years before her retirement in 1997.

She was active in the work of the South Carolina Baptist Convention, serving a five-year term on the Executive Committee, and as recording secretary of the convention in 1993. She also served two terms on the board of visitors of the Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles B. Davis. Survivors include a sister, brother and sister-in-law.
