Operation Angel Wings – Mission IV: Stay Awake!

The Baptist Courier

Alyssa Fowler is heading up Operation Angel Wings at Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church, Union. This ministry for the military began its fourth mission entitled “Stay Awake.” She is sending care packages to soldiers in Iraq via her husband, Captain Darren Fowler, U.S. Army. Packages contain items that complement the soldiers’ morning coffee.

Soldiers in Delta Company are located in the worst sector of Iraq, the last Sunni stronghold that is operated by al-Qaida insurgents. They average two to three hours of sleep each night, at best. They need as much coffee as they can get to help them stay awake and alert. Darren has informed Alyssa that they are constantly running out of coffee.

As a Valentine’s treat, they will receive the following items: coffee (12-ounce bags); Coffee-Mate or other non-dairy creamer (8-ounce container); single packs of sugar; coffee filters (to fit their individual 4-6 cup-coffeemakers); and Valentine’s cards. The coffee should be in a bag, and the creamer should be small. It is much easier to ship, and this will ensure that all the soldiers will get a “stay awake” package for Valentine’s Day.

To contribute items for packages, send to Alyssa Fowler, 102 Bermuda Drive, Union, 29379. Alyssa will personally add individual chocolates to gift boxes, but asks that donors also write Valentine’s cards for the soldiers. Operation Angel Wings is an opportunity to show them God’s love during the month of February.
