‘Annie’ visits Greenville church

The Baptist Courier

Annie Armstrong visited Earle Street Baptist Church in Greenville March 7 in the person of Teri Lewis. A professional actress and choreographer, Lewis presented “The Prayers of Annie Armstrong.” Drawing from older scripts and articles, as well as Bible passages that were favorites of Armstrong, Lewis wove together five “prayers” of the missions pioneer to provide a sketch of her character and work. Lewis, a member at Earle Street, is a graduate of Columbia University in New York City and the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. She teaches at the Fine Arts Center in Greenville. Lewis is a native of Laurens, where she was a member of First Baptist Church. The program was sponsored by Earle Street’s WMU in conjunction with efforts throughout the Southern Baptist Convention to raise $57 million for the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering. The offering was established in 1895 by Woman’s Missionary Union to support SBC missionaries in the United States. The offering was named for Annie Armstrong, WMU’s founder, in 1934. Blaun Bennett is WMU director at Earle Street.
