SCBMA unveils new logo; cross predominant in design

A new logo for South Carolina Baptist Ministries for the Aging “clearly points to God’s love for us and all people as expressed through the person and the gospel of Jesus Christ,” said Richard McLawhorn, SCBMA president.

The logo features a multilayered cross set against a field of beige and enclosed in concentric circles. The predominant color is red, symbolizing the shed blood of Christ, McLawhorn said.

The words “South Carolina Baptist Ministries for the Aging” and “Christ-Centered Retirement Communities” are set in white letters within a red field circumscribing the cross.

After soliciting and receiving several ideas for the design, McLawhorn shared the suggestions with artist Susan Meyer, wife of SCBMA trustee John Meyer, pastor of Belvedere Baptist Church, North Augusta. Meyer produced a concept drawing, which was refined by a Christian graphic artist who has previously done design work used in promoting the Cooperative Program.

In the final design, which was approved by SCBMA trustees in February, the layered cross represents “the many layers of care we provide to senior adults as we serve Jesus Christ,” McLawhorn said. The red signifies “the blood our Savior shed for us on the cross.”

“A lot of thought and prayer by a number of committed Christians went into this,” said McLawhorn. “I hope and pray that our fellow Southern Baptists will agree with me that this new logo is Christ-centered, Christ-focused and Christ-honoring.”
