Members of Green Sea Baptist Church are celebrating their 200th anniversary. Holding the distinction of being the oldest Baptist church in Horry County, Green Sea Baptist Church has consistently and continuously held services since 1807. To celebrate this milestone, special events have been scheduled throughout the year.

Many of the pastors and staff members who served the church in the past have been invited back to preach at one of the monthly “highlighting” services. Past speakers were Kevin Childs, Dean Herman and C.M. Langton. Upcoming speakers will include Ken Batts, May 20; Andy Rice, June 3; Bob Shackleford, July 15; Dexter James, Aug. 19; and Ralph Holt, Sept. 16.
The week of April 16-21 will feature a “Heritage Week” revival. Green Sea Baptist Church helped start six other congregations in the area: Spring Branch, Mt. Zion, Mt. Olive, Pleasant View, Grassy Bay, and Carolina. Each night of the revival, one of these churches will lead the service.
The culmination of the yearlong recognition will be a “Harvest Week” revival, featuring denominational leaders. Speakers include Jerry Rankin, president of the International Mission Board; Frank Page, president of the Southern Baptist Convention; Danny Akin, president of Southeastern Seminary; Mike Moody, president of the SCBC; Richard Land, president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission; Jimmy Epting, president of North Greenville University; Jairy Hunter, president of Charleston Southern University; and Carlisle Driggers, immediate past executive director, SCBC.
Tim Nugent is pastor of Green Sea.
