Jerrilyn White (Jerri) Carswell, 71, of Greer, wife of Ernest L. Carswell Jr., retired pastor of Taylors First Baptist Church, died March 15, 2007, at her home following a lingering illness.

She was born in Byron, Ga., and grew up in Americus, Ga. She was a graduate of the University of Georgia and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She was a former Miss Sumter County. She was a schoolteacher in Kentucky, was the first director of the Head Start program in Appling County, Ga., and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, two sons and five grandchildren.
