Psalm 85:6 – “Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?”

Danny Burnley

For some 25 years, God has given me the wonderful opportunity to pastor in South Carolina. There has never been a time in my life when I have been more excited about what God is doing among South Carolina Baptists.

I believe with all my heart that we are about to experience the greatest revival ever within our state convention and that it will spread from here.

If you missed our evangelism conference in Irmo, you missed a blessing. God is truly moving among us. Pray for Marshall Fagg, our convention staff and the pastors throughout our state that revival will begin with us.

The late R.A. Torrey, who was used of God in successfully preaching revivals, once wrote his prescription for revival:

“I can give a prescription that will bring a revival to any church or community or city or earth. Here it is: First, let a few Christians get thoroughly right with God themselves. This is the prime essential. If this is not done, the rest I am going to say will come to nothing. Second, let them bind themselves together in prayer groups to pray for revival until God opens the heavens and comes down. Third, let them put themselves at the disposal of God, for him to use them as he sees fit in the winning of others to Christ. That is all – it cannot fail.”

My friends, we can have revival if we will do everything he said. However, we cannot be like the lady who was given a recipe who said:

“I didn’t have potatoes, so I substituted rice,

I didn’t have paprika, so I used another spice,

I didn’t have tomato sauce, so I used tomato paste,

Not half a can, a whole can, I don’t believe in waste.

A friend gave me a recipe; she said you couldn’t beat it;

There must be something wrong with me; I couldn’t even eat it!”

No wonder she couldn’t eat it, she didn’t go by the recipe!

Brethren, let us do the three things in R.A. Torrey’s prescription and we will have revival! Our hearts will be stirred, we will experience joy, and God will send showers of blessings!

Let a few Christians get thoroughly right with God. Let us confess and acknowledge our sins (Jeremiah 3:13; Proverbs 28:13; Psalm 32:3).

Let s bind together in prayer groups throughout our state and pray until God opens the heavens and comes down (Matthew 7:7; 2 Chronicles 7:14).

Let us put ourselves at God’s disposal for him to use us as he sees fit in the winning of others to Christ.

Let’s believe God for a revival miracle. May we not be like the old Baptist layman who was always negative. He would always go around saying, “The whole world stinks. The whole world stinks.” Until someone pointed out to him that he had limburger cheese on his mustache.

Remember, Jesus said: “If thou canst believe all things are possible to him that believeth” (Mark 9:23). Lord, I believe!
