
Hoping to get a jump on finding the prize egg, these youngsters from Nebo Baptist Church in Britton’s Neck bound from the breezeway. Refreshments followed the egg hunt.

Betty Jean Fallaw was honored April 15 by Philippi Baptist Church, Johnston, for more than 50 years of service to the church’s music ministry. During the morning service, she was presented a music box and a plaque that will be displayed in the fellowship hall. Fallaw has served as pianist, organist, assistant pianist, and choir member. She retired as pianist this year, but she continues to serve as an assistant pianist and sings in the choir. Pictured below are (l to r) Robert Fallaw, Betty Jean Fallaw, and pastor Mayhew West.

The Mission Friends of Hillcrest Baptist Church, Elgin, recently finished a study on disaster relief. Barbara Buff, a disaster relief volunteer for Kershaw Baptist Association and a member of Hillcrest, spoke to the group about three trips she has made to the Gulf Coast and a recent trip to Missouri, where she helped with clean-up after an ice storm. The GAs at Home Branch Baptist Church, Santee Association, held their annual Egg Toss to raise money for the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering. They received sponsors for the event, and tossed real eggs at each other while trying not to break them. The winner was the one with the last unbroken egg. The group raised $745 for the offering.

The congregation of Fellowship of Praise of the Santee Lakes, pictured above, broke ground for their new “celebration center” Jan. 28, just four years after the first meeting in the home of Pam and Roger Kemmerlin. When completed, the 12,500-square-foot facility, pictured below, will seat 289 people for worship and will include space for children and youth ministries as well as adult educational space. Fellowship expresses thanks to its mother church, St. George Baptist Church in Orangeburg; pastor Jimmy Hanf; Ron Heddle, former DOM of Orangeburg-Calhoun Baptist Association; and Dino Senesi of the South Carolina Baptist Convention’s church multiplication group, for their support.


Hoffmeyer Road Baptist Church, Florence, held groundbreaking April 8 to launch a multi-phase plan which will incorporate a new fellowship hall, worship center and classroom space. Taking part in the ceremony were pastor Laneir Singleton, deacons, elders, building and planning committee, children, and church staff. Doris Anthony has retired as office manager of Berea First Baptist Church, Greenville, after 25 years of service. The church celebrated her ministry and friendship through “A Tribute to Doris Anthony,” held April 29. Former and current staff members shared funny and tender memories of their work with Doris. The choir presented an anthem dedicated to Doris’ late husband Fulton, who was killed in the line of duty as an officer of the South Carolina Highway Patrol. A reception in her honor followed the service.

To help raise money for the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering, deacon Stanley Parker of Sharon Baptist Church, Longs, made an offer that the church could not refuse: He agreed to wear a hat made of flowers. Each flower represented a $10 donation, and as a result the church surpassed its original offering goal.

Walter Johnson, dean of the College of Christian Studies at North Greenville University, was recognized by South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities at its second annual Excellence in Teaching awards banquet April 17 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center in Columbia. During the banquet, SCICU awarded the 2007 Excellence in Teaching Award to faculty members from its 20-member schools who have exhibited the qualities and skills most desired for enabling student learning. The 29 churches of Union County Baptist Association provided phone cards for Union County National Guardsmen who are being deployed to Afghanistan. The WMU supplied the unit with snack bags for their trip to Mississippi. Sgt. First Class Lonnie Wilbanks receives the first 155-minute phone. Making the presentation are Bill Harris, director of missions; Aulbrey Calvert; Larry Padgett, pastor of Hebron Baptist Church; and Marilyn Bright, WMU director.

Locust Hill Baptist Church, Travelers Rest, recently purchased a home adjacent to the church to be used as a mission residence. On March 18, the newly remodeled home was dedicated. Randy Bradley and his wife, former missionaries to Argentina, are currently living in the mission house.
