Eleven Pickens and Easley area churches worked together to impact their surrounding communities through missions projects April 21 as part of a World Changers event of the Pickens-Twelve Mile Baptist Association.

Projects at 16 sites in Easley, Pickens, Liberty and Central included helping a disabled person move to a new home, building wheelchair ramps, putting a roof on a soup kitchen, installing floors, repairing roofs, painting a church building and doing yard work. “Jesus” videos and Bibles were also distributed. A celebration service and cookout at Pickens High School followed the day’s activities.

Approximately 225 youth and college students, along with adult supervisors, participated in “Extreme Makeover: Foothills Edition.”

“This group of believers was ready with hammers, brushes, shovels, etc., to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ to show our love to our communities,” said Mark Ford, pastor of Cross Roads Baptist Church, Easley. “The church is out of the pew, seeing itself as sent to show compassion and concern.”

Pleased with the initial number of volunteers for the missions endeavor, Ford and other members of the leadership team hope “Extreme Makeover” will become an annual event.

In addition to Crossroads, churches participating in this year’s event were East Pickens, Pickens First, Six Mile, Secona, Prater’s Creek, Nine Forks, Blue Ridge View, Cross Pointe, Red Hill and Peter’s Creek.
