New Vision, Charleston Southern University’s contemporary Christian vocal ensemble, completed its weeklong ministry tour through North Carolina and Virginia May 13.

New Vision led worship and shared concerts at seven churches and schools throughout the two states: Providence Baptist Church, Raleigh, N.C.; Turner Memorial Baptist Church, Garner, N.C.; Fredericksburg Christian School and Spotswood Baptist Church, Fredericksburg, Va.; Upper Marlborough Baptist School, Riverdale, Md.; Greenbrier Christian Academy and Great Bridge Baptist Church, Chesapeake, Va.

According to New Vision director Allen Hendricks, the Charleston Southern students focused on what they love: ministering through music.?The effects of young people gaining interest in ministry and the university just followed suit.

In fact, as Hendricks walked across campus just three weeks after returning from the tour, he stopped to chat on the phone with a young man from Turner Memorial Baptist Church and his family. Having seen and talked with New Vision at his church, the young man is now applying to Charleston Southern and is exploring the possibility of a course of study that will lead to medical missions.

While this year’s tour focused on worship, the theme of next year’s concerts will be “Missions: Go Light Your World.”

“We hope to inspire people to become actively involved in missions work and to attract missions-minded students to Charleston Southern,” said Hendricks.

Visual media during the concerts will feature the university’s students and faculty on mission trips. Supporting this theme, New Vision is planning a mission tour to Mexico in May 2008.

“Opportunities for ministry and missions are everywhere, and that is exactly what New Vision does every weekend though their performances throughout the academic year,” said Hendricks.
