Hinnant ordained at Earle Street

Janice Hinnant was ordained to the ministry June 3 by Earle Street Baptist Church in Greenville, where she has served for the past 12 years as minister of music.

Earle Street’s pastor, Jim Wooten, preached the ordination sermon. Other ministers participating in the ordination were Michelle McClendon, minister of education, Greenville First Baptist Church; Stephen Clyborne, associate pastor, Earle Street; Ernest Carswell, retired pastor of First Baptist Church, Taylors; Lindsey O’Rear, retired minister of music at Taylors First Baptist and interim music minister at Lee Road Baptist Church, Taylors; Harold Killian, pastor emeritus at Earle Street; and Don Kirkland, deacon chairman at Earle Street.

Hinnant, a native of Candler, N.C., graduated from Furman University in 1984. While a student at Furman, she served as music intern at Leawood Baptist Church in Greenville for three years.

She attended Southern Baptist Seminary before earning her master’s degree in church music from Southwestern Baptist Seminary. She has also served churches in Texas, Kentucky, Maryland and Tennessee.

She and her husband Hank, who is music minister at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Greenville, are parents of a son, Kevin, 15.
