
A group of 26 men and women from Pineview Baptist Church, Kershaw, went to Beaver, Ky., for a week to serve in many different ways. They worked at a distribution center, repaired a home, built a ramp on the Servants Heart Lodge, and conducted Vacation Bible School for area children.

First Baptist Church, Hartsville, and First Baptist Church, Laurens, partnered on a mission trip to Trinidad July 9-16. A mission team of 33 members consisted of a medical team (two doctors, a pharmacist, a dentist, an optometrist, nurses and a support staff), a construction team and a Vacation Bible School team.

Tyler Estes was licensed to the ministry June 24 by Cross Roads Baptist Church, Greer. Tyler is a 2007 graduate of Mauldin High School and is the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Joey Estes of Mauldin. David O’Donnell was ordained to the ministry June 3 by Cavins Baptist Church, Woodruff. With O’Donnell and his family is Charles Foster, pastor of Cavins. O’Donnell has been called to pastor Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Barnwell-Bamberg Association.

Three college students with South Carolina connections are serving this summer at Student Leadership University in Orlando, Fla., with Jay Strack, youth evangelist. Alana Swindler is the daughter of John and Jennie Swindler. She is a member at Lexington Church, where her dad serves as student minister. She is representing the University of Mobile in Mobile, Ala., where she will be a sophomore. Kristen Carter is from Charleston and is the daughter of Clark Carter, campus minister at Charleston Southern University, and she, along with Mandy Jackson from Sumter, are representatives of CSU. Student Leadership University is a leadership training program open to students from all across the nation.

Emerald Baptist Church, Greenwood, broke ground (above) June 24 for a 13,500-square-foot fellowship hall and classroom facility. The $750,000 structure, which will also contain a full stage and baptismal pool, is expected to be completed by December 2007. Participating in the groundbreaking are (above, l to r) Joshua Penson, trustees Jimmy Owensby and Wayne Whatley, and oldest members Clayton Devore and Verlin Hummer. For the past two years, the church has used a portable outdoor baptismal pool and has baptized more than 70 people.
