Sharp has witnessed the progress of the department under the guidance of three previous chairs. His vision for the religion department is to expand the impact of the program.

“I’ve seen the momentum that has been built,” said Sharp. “We have a regional distinction with our program of religion and youth ministry. I’d like to see us become nationally known for the ministry we provide.”

Sharp earned an Ed.D. from Southern Baptist Seminary, an M.Div. from New Orleans Baptist Seminary, and a B.S. from Samford University.

Sharp is a member of The Fellowship of Oakbrook Baptist Church in Summerville. During the past six years, he has served as interim associate pastor, college and career Sunday school teacher, and he teaches kindergarten Sunday school with his wife.
