The Pastor’s Corner – by Danny Burnley

The Baptist Courier

“I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord” (Psalms 122:1).

Danny Burnley

As we all prepare for our Pastor’s Conference (Nov. 12) and for our South Carolina Baptist Convention, I hope that pastors throughout our state will have the same desire as did the psalmist.

I have never been more encouraged and excited about a pastor’s conference than the one that will take place at Calvary Baptist Church in Florence.

Words cannot express my appreciation for Don Kirkland, editor of The Baptist Courier, for what he has done to help me. The two of us have had the opportunity to sit down together and discuss this conference in detail.

Don has allowed me the opportunity to share words of encouragement to our pastors in the “Pastor’s Corner.” The Baptist Courier has also given financial support for this conference. God willing, I will be able to share with you in the following weeks about each of our guest preachers. Thank you, Don, for your help and support.

In addition, vice president Hans Wunch, secretary-treasurer Reiny Koschel and I have been together in prayer as we desire to serve and minister to all of our pastors. Executive director Jim Austin, convention president Mike Moody and I also met at Anderson University to pray for our pastors and convention as we prepare for our meetings in November.

I want to thank Skip Owens, denominational relations for Charleston Southern University, Randall Jones, Laneir Singleton, Keith Harrill and the staff at Calvary Baptist Church for all their help in these preparations.

Jon Schweigert, director of the Gideon Camps of South Carolina, and I have also met in prayer. I have given a personal invitation to the Gideons throughout our state to be our special guests of this conference. He has already notified the Gideon Camps, and they are very excited as well.

All pastors and churches will soon be receiving brochures concerning the preachers, singers and other information that will be of help. If you have not started making plans to be present, you should do so as soon as possible!

You will soon understand why I am so excited about this conference. Pastors, let us respond as did the psalmist and may we have a great turn out in Florence.
