Don’t limit God

The Baptist Courier

It is September now, and it is the time of year when many of our Southern Baptist churches are holding revivals. This is encouraging, because it seemed like for a while that the tradition of having revivals was dying out. Some traditions are helpful, and revivals are helpful because they encourage Christians to have a closer walk with the Lord Jesus. Revivals are primarily for Christians, but non-Christians benefit from them, too. People sometimes come to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior during revivals, so revivals are a special time for the Holy Spirit to do his work in our hearts.

There is a problem with the way most revival services are held today. Most churches are placing limits on how many days a revival meeting can be held.

Usually revivals are set to last for only three days. I know that the Holy Spirit is able to work his ministry on our scheduling, but I am beginning to wonder if we are doing the right thing by not being willing to let the Lord work on his schedule. It is just possible that he might want a revival service to go past three days to give those people that he has placed under conviction time to repent from their sins and accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
