O. Virgil Turner

O. Virgil Turner, of Spartanburg, a Baptist minister whose work included pastoring and developing materials for use by Royal Ambassadors across the Southern Baptist Convention, died Sept. 28, 2007.

He was pastor of Roebuck Baptist Church, Spartanburg, from 1958-1969 and was associate pastor of Green Street Baptist Church, Spartanburg, for more than 30 years. He also served as interim pastor or supply preacher for many churches during his ministry.

Turner developed order-of-service materials for use by Royal Ambassadors throughout the Southern Baptist Convention. He traveled as far away as Washington state to assist in organizing RA chapters.

He was a graduate of Spartanburg Methodist College, Wofford College and Southeastern Baptist Seminary.

In addition to his work as a minister, he was a teacher in Spartanburg District 7 for 20 years.

Survivors include a sister and a brother.
