Robert A. Long, 79, of Columbia, a retired Columbia-area pastor and Navy veteran, died Oct. 8, 2007.
He was born May 31, 1928, in Elkin, N.C., and graduated from Furman University and Southern Seminary. He served as a pastor of North Trenholm Baptist Church for 13 years and later served as pastor of Pine Belt Baptist Church for 10 years.
He served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years as a chaplain and retired as a commander.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Josephine Bradshaw Long, three daughters, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
