A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held during North Greenville University’s homecoming weekend to open the newly renovated Forrest and Marie Younts Wellness Center. The center is named in memory of the parents of Melvin Younts from Fountain Inn, longtime trustee and supporter of North Greenville.

Melvin and Dollie Younts, center, cut the ribbon with other North Greenville University officials to open the Forrest and Marie Younts Wellness and Fitness Center.

The center, located on the NGU campus, will house six treadmills, four stationary bicycles and elliptical machines with three 50-inch plasma TVs, free weights, cable weight machines, and an aerobics area for group aerobic classes.

Other plans for the center are for a health and wellness major and to offer health programs for faculty and staff.

“It is our expectation to increase the health and wellness of our faculty and staff over the next few years,” said Thomas Allen, dean of the college of math and science, who has been overseeing the completion of the new health center.

Melvin Younts said the fitness center is a “pleasant shock” and “exceeds expectations I had when Dr. Epting spoke to me about converting the original athletic center to a facility of this type.”

“Words cannot express how thrilled we are to have this facility for the students, faculty and staff. We hope everyone will get in better shape,” said NGU president Jimmy Epting.
