The Pastor’s Corner – by Danny Burnley

“I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 1:4).

With this being my last article in “The Pastor’s Corner,” I want to express my thanks to editor Don Kirkland and the staff at The Baptist Courier for all you have done to support and encourage the pastors throughout our state convention. You have truly been a blessing to us all.

God has given me a wonderful opportunity to serve as president of the Pastor’s Conference this year. It has been a blessed experience that I shall never forget.

I want to also thank Skip Owens, Randall Jones, Laneir Singleton, Donald Shockley, Ron Cook and my daughter Sherry, who helped me plan and prepare for our conference.

To Don Purvis, Keith Harrell and the fine members of Calvary Baptist Church in Florence who showed us such hospitality – thank you, thank you so much!

For South Carolina Baptists who may be unaware, the following gave financial support for this year’s Pastor’s Conference: South Carolina Baptist Convention, $5,000; Anderson University, $1,000; Charleston Southern University, $1,000; North Greenville University, $1,000; The Baptist Courier, $1,000; Baptist Foundation of South Carolina, $1,000; Trinity Theological Seminary, $1,000; West Gantt First Baptist Church, $2,500; and Bethea Baptist Retirement Community, 100 free meal tickets for our pastors.

Because of these who supported our conference, we were able to give all of our offerings to the Gideons to purchase Bibles.

A special thanks to Jairy Hunter, Jimmy Epting, Evans Whitaker, Harold Hunter, Weldon Fallaw, Jim Austin, and everyone at the Baptist Building who were leaders in this support.

To Mike Moody, Tom Tucker, Bill Curtis, Jerry White, Hans Wunch and Reiny Koschel, our conference was such a success because of your advice and support.

Many thanks to all Gideons throughout our state for your prayers and encouragement to our pastors. Truly, “we are laborers together with God” (1 Cor. 3:9).

God has richly blessed South Carolina Baptists. We have a wonderful convention!

Let me encourage all pastors to pray for and plan now to be present for our evangelism conference in February 2008 and for our Pastor’s Conference and state convention next November. Pray for our evangelism director Marshall Fagg; Eddie Leopard, our newly elected convention president; Howard Allen, Pastor’s Conference president; Jim Austin, executive director; for Order of Business Committee as they make plans for next year; and for Don Kirkland and the staff of our Baptist Courier.

Thank you, Lord Jesus, and thank you, South Carolina Baptists, for being so good to me.
